GLENAVON V CARRICK RANGERS, A LOOK AHEAD 1x6p5u

On Saturday 27th April 2024 Glenavon entertains Carrick Rangers at Mourneview Park in its final Sports Direct Premiership fixture. Kick-off time is 5-30 pm. Carrick has struggled to find any consistency for most of the season but has shown improved form in recent weeks. It is well placed to take seventh place and reach the Europa Conference League qualifying competition for the first time. 1e3om

Glenavon has beaten the East Antrim side three times since August – a 2-1 success at Mourneview Park and 3-1 and 2-0 victories at Taylor’s Avenue.

The Carrick game will be the final 90 minutes of Sean Ward’s illustrious career. The 40-year-old former Linfield, Glentoran and Crusaders defender is expected to lead the Glenavon team onto the field.

“Wardie is a big figure in our dressing room. He has been a model professional and is rightly respected and ired throughout Irish football,” said Stephen McDonnell. “Since my appointment he has been a great to me and the rest of the coaching staff. I count him as a friend and hope that the relationship we have formed will continue.”

Troy Savage, who made his debut at Stangmore Park last weekend, will again be part of the Glenavon squad. “Troy is a very talented young player,” Stephen continued. “He has been training with the first team for quite some time and deserved his chance. He is a breath of fresh air. If he continues to improve, he will have more first team opportunities.”

McDonnell faces some selection headaches. Aaron Prendergast (ankle) and Len O’Sullivan (concussion) will not play. Peter Campbell (groin) is doubtful. Jack Malone is suspended. In addition, Gareth Deane, Calum Birney and Isaac Baird are also unavailable due to injury. “We have some absentees, but we will do our best to finish the season on a positive note,” added Stephen.
